Multiplex tissue image of the month - IGF2BP1 in testis

News image of the month May 2025 IGF2BP1 testis spermatogonia.PNG

Insulin like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 1 (gene: IGF2BP1) is localized to undifferentiated sperm cells in testis.

Spermatogonia are the stem cells of spermatogenesis and the early mitotic stage progenitors of sperm cells before they undergo meiosis. With the help of the mIHC/IF spermatogonia panel, proteins can be localized to spermatogonia at different states of differentiation. Using this panel, IGF2BP1 - an mRNA-binding protein that regulates the expression of certain genes - is mainly localized (green) to the cytoplasm of state 0 spermatogonia (yellow) at the periphery of the seminiferous ducts of testis. Additional expression is seen in state 1 (white) and state 2-3 (cyan) spermatogonia.
