Annotation summary Orexin (or hypocretin) is a predominantly hypothalamic neuropeptide that regulates food intake, arousal and wakefulness. Strong intensity immunostaining of a distinct neuronal cell group (somas+processes) is noticed bilaterally in the lateral hypothalamus of the mouse brain. In addition, weak to moderate-intensity axonal immunostaining of dense fibers is noticed in the septum, VDB, nucleus accumbens shell, BNST, anterior hypothalamus, thalamic nuclei, amygdala, entorhinal cortex, periaqueductal gray matter, locus coeruleus and solitary nucleus. Moreover, sparse fibers are noticed throughout the neocortex and many other brain regions.
