PRKCe is a protein widely expressed in neuronal cells, dendritic processes and synaptic terminals from most parts of the brain, with a suggested involvement in mechanisms of synaptic maturation and synaptogenesis. Although it is predominantly found in the brain, it is also observed across many other tissues at lower levels. However, available human and mouse transcriptomic data show a higher abundance of PRKCe in the forebrain compared to other brain regions. Regarding the current slides, moderate-intensity diffuse/synaptic-type immunostaining is noticed throughout the entire brain. Also, axonal staining is noticed in some brainstem nuclei (like in the peri-coerulear region or in the n. tr. solitarii) and, occasionally, moderate-intensity staining of neuronal cell bodies are seen.
