X-linked retinitis pigmentosa GTPase regulator-interacting protein 1 (RPGRIP1) RNA is almost exclusively seen in human testicular tissue. However, in the CNS of both mouse and pig, it shows predominant expression in the retina, with far lower levels in the rest of the brain regions. On the protein level, it is expressed in retina but also in areas corresponding to the visual path, such as the geniculate nucleus and the superior colliculus. Substantial immunoreactivity in other olfactory and cerebellar regions is noted too.
